The Safely team had an incredible weekend at the Ascension Seton Austin Marathon, Half Marathon, and 5K, where over 100 runners came together to raise awareness for female runner safety.
Austin is home to Safely, so being part of this race meant something extra special for our team. This was also the second race where we created a Female Runner Safety Team, bringing together runners who believe every woman deserves to feel confident and safe while running.
The Safely Team Was Out on the Course Too
This event was even more meaningful because two of Safely’s co-founders ran the Austin Half Marathon alongside the runners raising awareness for female runner safety.
At Safely, we are not just talking about runner safety. We are part of the running community ourselves. Being out on the course with so many incredible runners made the entire weekend feel even more powerful.
Teaching Runners How to Use Pepper Spray
At the race expo, the Safely team had the opportunity to connect with runners, share safety tips, and teach participants how to properly use pepper spray.
Many runners shared that they already carry a safety tool but have never practiced using it before. That is exactly why Safely hosts these demonstrations. Practicing ahead of time helps remove uncertainty and ensures you know what to do if you ever need it.
We also had the chance to introduce runners to the Safely Sidekick, our multi functional self defense tool featuring a bright flashlight, pepper spray, personal safety alarm, and interchangeable attachments designed to help women stay prepared on every run.
Pinky Made an Appearance
If you have seen our videos online, you might recognize Pinky, our bright pink skeleton who helps demonstrate how to use pepper spray safely.
Pinky was at the expo helping runners practice their aim and learn how safety tools work in a safe and controlled environment. And on race day, Pinky was also on the sidelines cheering runners on as they crossed the finish line.

Learning about safety does not have to be intimidating. Sometimes a little encouragement and humor can go a long way in helping people feel confident and prepared.
The Power of the Female Runner Safety Team
One of the most inspiring parts of the weekend was seeing the support and energy from the Female Runner Safety Team.
Over 100 runners participated, helping spark important conversations about safety while running and raising awareness for women everywhere.
When runners come together like this, it shows just how powerful a community can be.
