When most people think of a race, they picture finish times, personal records, and podiums. But at Race Without the Pace, hosted by Girls Who Run DFW, the focus was something much more meaningful: building community.
Women of all experience levels came together to walk, jog, run, push strollers, bring their dogs, and simply enjoy being surrounded by other women who love to move. There were no official race times or pressure to perform, just an incredible reminder that running can be about connection just as much as competition.
Safely was honored to be part of the event, spending the morning teaching runners and walkers how to confidently carry and use pepper spray. Using our Practice Spray, a 100% water training formula, participants were able to safely practice proper technique and ask questions in a supportive environment.
Why Running Safety Matters
One conversation we hear over and over is that many women change their running habits because they don't always feel safe.
Some avoid running before sunrise. Others skip evening runs or only run with friends. Many carry pepper spray but have never actually practiced using it.
That's exactly why we attend events like Race Without the Pace. Carrying a safety tool is only part of the equation. Knowing how to use it confidently can make all the difference.
Throughout the morning, we met women who were trying pepper spray for the first time, learning proper technique, and leaving with more confidence than when they arrived.
Summer Is Building More Than a Run Club
One of our favorite parts of the event was supporting Summer, one of Safely's incredible ambassadors and the organizer behind Girls Who Run DFW.
Our ambassador program is filled with women who are passionate about creating safer communities, whether that's through hosting runs, educating others, or simply leading by example.
Watching Summer bring together such an encouraging group of women reminded us exactly why we created the program in the first place. When women empower other women, incredible things happen.
Thank You, Girls Who Run DFW
We're so grateful to everyone who stopped by to practice with us, ask questions, and spend time with Pinky, our 5-foot pink skeleton (who, as always, was a crowd favorite).
Events like Race Without the Pace prove that running communities can be about so much more than miles. They can be places where women gain confidence, learn practical safety skills, and build friendships that last long after the finish line.
Thank you to Summer and Girls Who Run DFW for inviting us to be part of such a special day. We can't wait for the next one.
