The Denim Run Austin: Community, Healing, and Important Conversations

The Denim Run Austin: Community, Healing, and Important Conversations

On April 25th, the Safely team joined The Denim Run Austin, a community event centered around movement, resilience, and supporting survivors through connection and conversation.

Hosted at Camp Mabry, the event brought together runners, nonprofits, local businesses, and members of the Austin community for a morning focused on empowerment, healing, and showing up for one another.

From the 5K to the wellness festival, the day was a reminder of how powerful community can be when people come together around a shared purpose.

More Than Just a Run

The Denim Run was not just about miles or finish times.

It was about creating space for conversations that matter and supporting people through community, education, and connection.

Throughout the event, attendees had the opportunity to connect with organizations and businesses focused on wellness, advocacy, and empowerment. It created an environment that felt supportive, welcoming, and deeply meaningful.

As an Austin founded personal safety company, events like this are especially important to us because they reflect so much of why Safely exists in the first place.

Teaching Safety in an Approachable Way

Throughout the morning, the Safely team connected with participants at our booth to share safety education and hands-on demonstrations focused on helping people feel more confident and prepared.

Participants had the opportunity to practice with Safely Practice Spray, our 100% water formula designed to help people safely learn proper pepper spray technique before ever needing it in a real situation.

And of course, Pinky was there too, this time dressed for the occasion in denim shorts.

Pinky, our life-sized pink skeleton, helped participants practice their aim, ask questions, and get more comfortable using their tools in a safe and approachable environment.

One of the most common things we hear at events is that people carry pepper spray but have never actually practiced using it before.

That is exactly why these demonstrations matter.

Why Practicing Matters

Having a personal safety tool is important, but confidence comes from knowing how to use it.

Practicing ahead of time helps remove hesitation and gives people the opportunity to build muscle memory in a low pressure setting.

We always encourage people to continue practicing beyond events, whether that is with friends, family, or using practice spray at home with our mini Pinky target poster.

Safety education should feel approachable, supportive, and empowering.

Supporting Organizations Making an Impact

One of the most meaningful parts of the day was seeing so many organizations come together in support of survivors and important community initiatives.

A portion of Safely’s revenue from the event was donated to support the nonprofit behind The Denim Run and the work they continue to do in the community.

The organization is also continuing its impact beyond this event through future runs and advocacy efforts, including plans to help introduce the Summer Willis Act in 20 states beginning next year.

Events like this remind us that safety is not just about prevention. It is also about support, advocacy, and creating spaces where people feel seen and empowered.

Why Community Events Matter

At Safely, we believe some of the most impactful conversations happen in community settings like this.

When people come together through movement, education, and shared experiences, it creates opportunities for connection and awareness that can have a lasting impact.

We are grateful to have been part of a day that brought together so many people focused on supporting and uplifting others.

Looking Ahead

We will continue partnering with organizations, races, and communities across the country to provide approachable safety education and support meaningful causes.

If you are interested in bringing Safely to your next event, we would love to connect.

A Safer Tomorrow Starts Today

Every conversation matters.

Every person who shows up matters.

And together, we are helping create stronger and safer communities.
