Meet the Safely lineup: Pepper Spray, Practice Spray, the Sidekick, and the SOS Sidekick. A handful of states restrict what we're legally allowed to ship. This isn't a Safely policy. It's state law. Below is exactly what's restricted where, and what you can order instead so you're still covered.
The short version
- Pepper spray (in Pepper Spray, the Sidekick, or the SOS Sidekick) can't ship to Alaska, Hawaii, Massachusetts, or New York.
- Practice Spray ships everywhere, all 50 states. No restrictions.
- The Knux grip can't ship to Alaska, California, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, Vermont, or Washington.
- The Strap grip ships everywhere. In the four states where pepper spray is restricted (AK, HI, MA, NY), Strap grip Sidekicks are only available with the practice spray option.

Knux and Strap grip availability applies to both the Sidekick and the SOS Sidekick.
What to order instead
If you're in Alaska, Hawaii, Massachusetts, or New York: pepper spray can't ship to you in any form, standalone or inside a Sidekick. Choose Practice Spray on its own, or a Sidekick / SOS Sidekick with the Strap grip and the practice spray option. You'll still get the alarm, flashlight, and spike, just without the OC spray.
If you're in California, Washington, Michigan, Illinois, or Vermont: pepper spray itself is fine, it's just the Knux grip that's restricted. Choose the Strap grip version of the Sidekick or SOS Sidekick instead, with either spray option.
Why checkout might have blocked you
If you tried to complete an order and saw a message that a product was "unavailable to ship" to your address, this is why. Our shipping settings automatically block restricted combinations at checkout so we don't accidentally ship you something we're not legally allowed to send. It's not a glitch, and it's not personal. Use the table above to find the version that will ship to you, then head back to your cart.
