Getting Started
To unbox your Sidekick, start by carefully cutting or tearing any tape or seals on the box, taking care not to damage the contents. Gently remove any protective materials like foam or plastic that are securing the item in place. Carefully lift out the main item and handle it with clean hands to avoid dirt or oils. Check for any additional accessories or components that might be included, and refer to this user manual for important setup and safety information. Inspect the item and all components to ensure everything is present and undamaged. If anything is missing or damaged, contact Safely for assistance. Finally, recycle or dispose of the packaging materials responsibly.
Once the device has been removed from the box, ensure all components are correctly attached and working as outlined below:
- Pepper Spray: The pepper spray should be inserted into the device with the nozzle facing forward, aligned with the arrow on the top of the grip. With the nozzle facing away from you, the safety lock should be engaged by positioning it to the far left. This ensures the spray is ready to use and will fire away from you.
- Grip: The grip should be positioned with the bottom of the grip touching the top of the flashlight. The grip is locked in place when the pepper spray is inserted into the device.
- Keychain: The keychain should be tightly secured onto the device and screwed all the way on.
- Pull-pin: The pull pin should be completely inserted into the device with the wrist strap attached. You can pull the pull-pin to test that the alarm sounds.
- Button: The button is located on the back of the device. Click the button once to turn the flashlight on and off. Double click the button to activate the “strobe” blinking flashlight, and click once to turn it off.
- Additional Grips or Attachments: If you purchased additional grips or attachments, see the how to use section for more information.
The Sidekick features an extended battery life lasting multiple hours of continuous flashlight use, and it's rechargeable for added convenience. To charge the device, insert a micro USB into the port on the back of the device and plug into power.
When clicking the button on the back of the device, the color of the light will indicate the battery level:
- Green: 90% or more
- Yellow: From 89% to 20%
- Red: 20% or less

Safety Instructions
The Sidekick is intended for users at least 18 years of age. User is responsible for compliance with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations in its purchase and use of the product. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
Pepper Spray
When handling the pepper spray, always ensure it is in the locked position to prevent accidental discharge. With the nozzle facing away from you, the safety lock should be engaged by positioning it to the far left. When you need to activate the pepper spray, make sure the canister is facing forward, with the nozzle aligned with the arrow on the top of the grip. This ensures the spray is ready to use and fires away from you.
Always keep the pepper spray pointed away from your face and body, and never test or use it indoors. Store the device in a secure, easily accessible location, out of reach of children and pets. Finally, familiarize yourself with local laws and regulations regarding pepper spray use and carry.
See further instructions for pepper spray use below.
Flashlight
Avoid shining the flashlight directly into anyone's eyes, as this can cause temporary blindness or discomfort. Keep the flashlight out of reach of children, as it contains small parts and produces intense light. The flashlight is not waterproof, so avoid exposing it to water or moisture. Do not expose the flashlight to extreme temperatures, as this can affect its performance or cause damage. Additionally, keep it away from open flames or heat sources to prevent fire hazards. When not in use, store the flashlight in a cool, dry place. Lastly, familiarize yourself with the flashlight's operation before an emergency arises to ensure proper use when needed.
Alarm
When handling the alarm, ensure that it is "off" or "safe" mode to prevent accidental activation. The alarm is “off” mode when the pull-pin is inserted. The alarm is in “safe” mode by holding down the button for 5 seconds. Always keep the alarm pointed away from your ears and others’ ears when testing or activating it, as the 130 dB sound can cause hearing damage. Familiarize yourself with the activation method (by pulling the pin) before an emergency situation arises, so you can use it quickly and effectively if needed. Avoid exposing the alarm to moisture or submerging it in water. Keep the alarm out of reach of children, as it can produce a loud, startling sound. Store the alarm in a cool, dry place when not in use, away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and extreme temperatures, which can affect its performance.
Grips
Knux
The knux grip should be handled with extreme care. Always keep them out of reach of children and ensure they are only used for lawful purposes. When handling the knux, be aware of their pointed edges to avoid accidental injury to yourself or others. Never wear or brandish knux in a threatening manner unless you are in immediate danger and it is legally justified. Familiarize yourself with the correct grip to avoid injuring your hand during use. Understand and comply with local laws and regulations regarding the possession and use of knux. If not in use, store knux in a secure location.
Strap
When using the strap grip to secure the Sidekick device to your hand, ensure that the strap is properly fastened to provide a snug but comfortable fit. The strap should be tight enough to prevent the device from slipping but not so tight that it restricts blood flow or causes discomfort. Make sure the velcro is fully engaged to prevent the strap from coming loose during use. Periodically check the strap for signs of wear or damage, and replace it if the Velcro no longer adheres securely or if the material shows signs of fraying or tearing. Avoid exposing the strap to excessive moisture, as this may reduce its effectiveness or cause deterioration over time. Store the Velcro strap in a cool, dry place when not in use, away from direct sunlight and heat sources, which can cause the material to degrade over time.
Keychain
When using the removable keychain attachment with the Sidekick device, ensure that it is securely attached to prevent accidental detachment. Regularly check the keychain and the attachment point on the device for any signs of wear, bending, or damage, which could lead to breakage or loss. If the ring is designed to be removed, do so carefully to avoid damaging the ring or the device. Avoid overloading the keychain with too many keys or accessories, as this can put undue stress on the ring and attachment point. When attaching or removing the ring, be mindful of your surroundings to avoid dropping the device or other attached items. Store the keychain ring in a safe, dry place when not in use, especially if it has been removed from the Sidekick device.
Glass Breaker
If the glass breaker attachment is attached to your device, always ensure it is oriented with the point facing downward and away from your body to avoid accidental injury. This positioning ensures the glass breaker is ready for use and aimed safely away from you. When using the glass breaker, apply firm, controlled pressure to the targeted surface, and ensure you are wearing appropriate protective gear, such as safety glasses, if necessary. If you do not need to use the glass breaker, it is advisable to remove it from the device to prevent accidental activation or injury. Regularly inspect the glass breaker for any signs of damage or wear, and replace it if it shows signs of dullness, chipping, or other defects that could impair its function. When not in use, store the glass breaker attachment in a secure, dry place. Ensure it is kept away from direct sunlight, moisture, or corrosive substances to prevent deterioration.

If using practice spray, it functions the same as pepper spray.
Attachments
To attach the keychain or glass breaker, unscrew one from the bottom of the device and screw the other on.
The keychain is designed for attaching the device to items like car keys or a motel keychain. Avoid overloading the keychain with too many keys or accessories, as this can put undue stress on the ring and attachment point.
The glass breaker should be used in situations where you need to break glass; effectiveness can vary based on factors such as glass thickness, strike location, and applied force. Safely assumes no liability for misuse of this feature.
